About me

My name is Roger van den Akker and I now live in Thailand. Before coming to Thailand I lived in many different countries where I went to school and in some of these countries I later on worked. My father was employed by a multinational company and that’s why I lived in all these different places.

I was born in the Netherlands but when I was 6 years old I moved to El Salvador in South America, where I lived for 5 years.

This is a picture of my sister and I at a volcanic lake in El Salvador.

Then when I was 11 years old I lived in Hong Kong for 5 years.

This is me doing my favourite sport windsurfing with my sister on the back in Hong Kong.

After that we lived in Singapore for 2 and a half years.

In Singapore with Stefan van den Berg a short time after he won the gold medal for windsurfing at the Olympics.
Now after having worked in South East Asia for a number of years I live in Thailand again, I have a family and I am settled down.
One of my hobbies is growing vegetables in a special system called the aquaponics system which I set up.
Teaching is my passion, it’s great to see my students make progress and become self confident.
